About Only the highest quality materials obtainable are used for J.P. Holmes custom knives. The following are the steps that he goes through to craft a fine handmade knife. J.P. devotes meticulous attention to details for each step in the knife making process. First the knife is cut from the raw steel and ground into the desired shape. Then the knife is heat-treated to achieve the maximum hardness for that steel, and cryogenically frozen to develop optimum durability. After the knife is tempered to prevent brittleness, J.P. completes the grinding process, and then stress-relieves it in the oven to prevent cracking or chipping. Finally, he is ready to assemble the knife, apply the details and put the finishing touches on the knife. The result of these many hours of labor is a handcrafted, beautiful and durable knife that, with proper care can last a lifetime.
